Concept

Collective Pantry is a project that I created for a class when tasked to take an issue that is important to me and design a solution. So I created a nonprofit organization that tackles the issue of food deserts and educating teens about proper nutrition. Grocery stores toss perfectly good food each day because it is less than pretty. Backed by Feeding America, Collective Pantry aims to sort the undesirable food and deliver them bi-weekly to low income families located in food deserts to provide healthy meals. Each of food arrives with a simple, 3 step recipe card that was created based on the package’s contents. The directions are written so that a teen can easily understand and be able to follow along to cook for their siblings.

Iconography

Major food groups were reduced to an icon that is also assigned a color. These icons are used on the recipe cards and on the packaging to give a visual representation of which foods to expect when opening the box and selecting a recipe card to cook with.

Packaging

The recipient can look at the pattern on the package and know what food groups can be expected to be discovered inside.
